Encouraging Words

Apart but Together – observations on our present situation

Technology has come into its own in that people have been able to remain connected with each other through many means.
The church building is closed (the Church is not closed) and we can’t meet to worship in the way we did prior to the lockdown.
We haven’t arranged online services but we have found others such as West Leigh and we have been encouraged where possible to join them on Sunday mornings.

Daily Hope Phone Line

Daily Hope offers music, prayers and reflections as well as full worship services from the Church of England at the end of a telephone line.
The line – which is available 24 hours a day on 0800 804 8044 – has been set up particularly with those unable to join online church services during the period of restrictions in mind.

Monday thoughts from our Elder

This morning the first two verses of the song “ All over the world the Spirit is moving” came to mind – I would like to sing them to you but I have resisted!! Instead I have included them below and if you know the tune then sing the words as you think about them.

Indeed I feel God’s Spirit is moving all over the world albeit at the moment not quite in the way we might have expected. Understandably many people are concerned about this virulent virus that is causing so much devastation and heartache. Equally many people who are not church goers are tuning into church services in search of some comfort and peace.

So what can we do? – well many in our church family at HBC are using the gifts that God has given them to good and encouraging effect for which we are grateful. That said, let us all widen our thoughts as to how we can spread God’s message of salvation, and in that vein, I feel led to write an e-mail to all my ex work colleagues and friends – maybe this initiative provides an opportunity for some of you to do the same – be bold and be strong. If you have any other ideas then please share them – let us be positive in our outlook and seek to serve our God in as many ways as possible.

May you feel secure and blessed this day, this week and the coming months.

All over the world the Spirit is moving,
All over the world as the prophet said it would be;
All over the world there’s a mighty revelation
Of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

All over His church God’s Spirit is moving.
All over His Church as the prophet said it would be;
All over His church there’s a mighty revelation
Of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

This concerns Nick Orr. He use to live in Rayleigh until recently and now lives in Lincolnshire. He ran a dog grooming parlour and also bred dogs which is where we got our wonderful dog. Some may remember his daughter Chloe coming to our church for a short while a few years ago. Anyway we …
