On 27th December 1941, George Peel, took part in Operation Archery, a raid on the town of Vaagso in Norway, which was under German control. It was a combined military operation but principally led by the newly formed Commandos from the previous year. At the time of the raid, the Commandos had not yet been tested against the enemy.
Their principal target were the fish oil factories that the Germans were using for the manufacture of high explosives.
